The city of Puerto Madryn is located in the northeastern region of the province of Chubut, on the shores of the Golfo Nuevo. 84 kilometers from the capital city of Rawson, this Atlantic coastal paradise is the chosen place of the southern right whale for its mating rituals and for bearing its children. Between the months of May and June, and until the end of November, the whales enter the Golfo Nuevo: a number greater than 400 take advantage of the tranquil waters to reproduce and give birth. Thanks to the docility and curiosity of these mammals, we can appreciate them in all of their splendor at very short distances (no more than 10 meters) boarding boats that make excursions navigating in the gulf.

ECOCENTRO
( Puerto Madryn, Patagonia)

The EcoCentro, the first place in the country dedicated to the interpretation of the marine ecological systems, is located in a privileged place along the extense coast: in the city of Puerto Madryn, close to Peninsula Valdés. In this zone, like no other for the concentration of marine fauna and for the rustic beauty of its landscapes, nature shows us one of its most moving spectacles. The EcoCentro was built over a cliff that apears to form part, like a lookout point in a carefully chosen spot, a threshold from where one can arrive to what we didn't know or had forgotten. The exhibition room takes you through the Patagonian coastal ecosystem. Information, anecdotes, diagrams, drawings which wake your curiosity and invite you to ask more questions. Here it is possible to discover the magnitude of the ocean currents and the astounding variety of algas, come to face with the perplexing jump of the whales, and observe the precise differences and similarities between seals and sea elephants, or a reproduction of Mel, one of the first orcas identified in Peninsula Valdés. In one far end of the exhibition room, next to a window, we see a sea pool, inhabited by small invertebrata moving slowly, with the beauty, which cannot be reproduced, of natural events.
