Fishing in Patagonia

Salmon Fishing
A great quantity of places exist to fish for rainbow trout, perch, Fontinalis, and Patagonian mackerel, since the main houses of the ranches are generally located close to rivers and creeks of crystal-clear water--like the valley of the Senguer River or the Mayo River, which flow into large and majestic lakes.

One of the principal attractions of the water in the region for the lovers of sport fishing is the excellence of the captured specimens. To practice the sport, you must have the corresponding fishing license, emitted by the National Parks or the provincial organisms, and the fishing must conform to the established regulations. (The license may be obtained in any office of the official organisms or in fishing stores.)

In all cases, the type of fishing is with artificial lures, which includes spinning (with lures from the coast), trolling (fishing from a boat), and fly casting--which is the technique preferred by experimented fishermen.

The places for each type of fishing are specified in the fishing regulations, and you can also inquire in the tourist information centers.

The most sportive method, undoubtedly, is fly-casting, since it offers better odds for the fish and requires the maximum amount of skill by the fisherman.

Fishing season extends approximately from November 15th to April 15th.
