EXPLORING ARCHAEOLOGY AND DISCOVERING THE MOUNTAIN RANGE
12days/11nights October/April
PAT-303

We will visit Cabo Dos Bahías, inhabited by one of the most diverse marine bird colonies in the entire world and one of the largest continental penguin colonies, with almost half a million birds. Here we observe a constant coming and going from and to their nests, an activity which increases in the morning and at sunset when it is cooler. At a distance of only a few meters, we can observe how they fight for their homes. Behind them, a line of penguins cut across our walkways--where we must move carefully in order to not bother them--towards nests further away from the beach.

BOSQUE PETRIFICADO

Continuing our trip, and 100 kilometers from Comodoro Rivadavia, we will visit the José Ormachea Provincial Reserve, popularly called the Petrified Forest, where 65 million years ago, dense forests, giant reptiles, and a humid climate tipified the area. Today, due to the passing of time and erosion from the wind, we can observe how different organisms have left their tracks in the rocks, forming important palentological discoveries of dinosaur fossils, mineralized marine flora and fauna, and huge petrified trunks. The process has been slow, only the passing of milleniums has been able to achive such perfection. We will visit the center for studies which covers the general paleontology and archeological remains of the aborigines that inhabited the region.

We will lodge in a Patagonian ranch so that the following day we can visit the Caves of the Painted Hands (declared as "Cultural Patrimony of Humanity" by UNESCO), looking over the Canyon of the Río Pinturas (The Paint River), with a depth of more than 150 meters. Due to its surrounding geographical environment and the quantity of archeological discoveries in the area, it is calculated that this is the most important discovery of Rupestrian Paintings. Here, we can observe the rupestrian paintings which date back 9000 years, and which have been exposed to the environment, the light of the sun, and the climatic conditions. These paintings are symbols which include hands in negative and positive relief, guanaco hunting scenes, and a great variety of silhouettes and geometrical shapes, all with the spectacular surroundings of the Canyon which provokes an unforgettable experience. And in the evening, you will be able to enjoy a good Patagonian barbecue, the asado.

THE FOREST OF THE MILLENARY ALERCES We travel to the Los Alerces National Park, where we go on a lake safari, visiting the Glaciar Torrecillas and the Forest of the Millenary Alerces, the only like it in the world, with trees that have diameters of up to 3 meters and heights of 60 to 70 meters, and as old as 3000 years. The following day, we will make a half-day excursion in a tourist steam train with a narrow trail; one of the few like it in the world.

BARILOCHE:
An interesting circuit, bordering along Lake Nahuel Huapi, where we reach Bonita Beach and can see Huemul Island. Going up in the air-chair to Cerro Campanario allows for a splendid panoramic view where we can see the Otto, López, Goye, and Catedral Cerros, the Nahuel Huapi and Perito Moreno Lakes, the El Trébol lagoon, the San Pedro and Llao Llao peninsulas, Victoria Island, and the city of Bariloche itself. Cerro Campanario in itself is a great natural balcony.

Later, we cross the Angostura bridge which connects the Moreno, Nahuel Huapi, and Bahía López Lakes, at the foot of Cerro López.

Later we arrive to the bridge which crosses over Lake Moreno, along the El Trébol lagoon until reaching Avenida Bustillo-which returns us once again to Bariloche and which closes the small circuit.

BUENOS AIRES: To finalize this program, we will visit Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. A city which has generously received people from the most diverse origins and which has incorporated them into the Argentine way of life, becoming a great metropolis, elegant, cultured, and dynamic. A city with the seduction of the tango, the traditional neighborhoods, and the very attractive commercial centers. In this city, you can take optional excursions like: a city tour, the Delta del Tigre and the coastal train, a visit to San Telmo, a dinner with a tango show.
