PATAGONIAN RANCHES
9 days/ 8 nights November/March
PAT-236

Reception in Comodoro Rivadavia, lodging, and a tour of the city. 178 kilometers from Comodoro Rivadavia, we will visit the José Ormachea Provincial Reserve,
popularly called the Petrified Forest, where 65 million years ago, dense forests, giant reptiles, and a humid climate tipified the area. Today, due to the passing of time and erosion from the wind, we can observe how different organisms have left their tracks in the rocks, forming important palentological discoveries of dinosaur fossils, mineralized marine flora and fauna, and huge petrified trunks. The process has been slow, only the passing of milleniums has been able to achive such perfection. We will visit the center for studies which covers the general paleontology and archeological remains of the aborigines that inhabited the region.

CUEVAS DE LAS MANOS:
We will lodge in a Patagonian ranch so that the following day we can visit the Caves of the Painted Hands (declared as "Cultural Patrimony of Humanity" by UNESCO), looking over the Canyon of the Río Pinturas (The Paint River), with a depth of more than 150 meters. Due to its surrounding geographical environment and the quantity of archeological discoveries in the area, it is calculated that this is the most important discovery of Rupestrian Paintings. Here, we can observe the rupestrian paintings which date back 9000 years, and which have been exposed to the environment, the light of the sun, and the climatic conditions. These paintings are symbols which include hands in negative and positive relief, guanaco hunting scenes, and a great variety of silhouettes and geometrical shapes, all with the spectacular surroundings of the Canyon which provokes an unforgettable experience. And in the evening, you will be able to enjoy a good Patagonian barbecue, the asado.

Continuing our trip, we visit the Glaciar Perito Moreno, located 78 kilometers from the town of El Calafate, which forms part of the 600,000 hectares of the Los Glaciares National Park which was declared Natural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO in 1981. The glacier covers 195 square kilometers, with walls of ice of between 60 and 80 meters which from time to time create what everyone is waiting for: a caving-in, where it is impossible to to catch everything at the same time with your eyes.

Lodging in a ranch from the beginning of the last century, where an adventurous Finn adopted Patagonia as his second home, to the southwest of Lake Viedma, on the border with Chile, within the National Park. Here, you can enjoy dishes prepared with products from the region. You can make excursions to Lake Azul, which is fed by Glaciar Viedma, surrounded by mountains and snow.

EXCURSIÓN LACUSTRE UPSALA ONELLI: During the morning hours, leaving from the port of Punta Bandera, we navigate through the Brazo Norte of Lake Argentino. The navigation takes place among spectacular huge ice floes of different shapes. We are also able to see the Upsala and Onelli Glaciers. We get off at Bahía Onelli, where we walk approximately 800 meters through a forest until arriving to Lake Onelli, a small mirror of water with a countless number of ice floes that break off of the three glaciers. We return to the port in the late afternoon.
